Introduction

The Regent Phu Quoc is undoubtedly one of the best and most beautiful hotels we have stayed at. If you have been following us for a while now, you'd catch on to how much we love value and this is definitely a hotel that should be praised for its value.

The Regent brand's glory days were in the 80s and 90s, but over the last decade, they have posed a magnificent comeback - it's Phu Quoc property is a testament. You won't find any rooms here, only suites and villas, most boasting their own private pool(s). The property has been rumoured to have thousand and even ten-thousands of koi fish - we don't know what the actual number is, but we do know that there are A LOT of koi fish on the property (that guests can feed as well during their designated meal times).

Arrival and Check-In

We arrived at Phu Quoc International Airport around 1pm local time and it took us more than 2 hours to exit the airport given three flights had landed around the same time and there were only three immigration counters operating. There were express lanes for an extra fee but we didn't enquire into that so did not have any insight. The express lane would definitely be on the cards for our next trip.

The good news is - this would be the worst part of our trip and things were about to get much better. We took a Grab (SE Asia's Uber equivalent) to the hotel, which cost ~USD 8 for a larger car. The trip to the hotel was quiet and the roads were very wide, a stark contrast to the empty and underdeveloped road side stalls (and the luxury Regent hotel that we would arrive at shortly).

We arrived at the hotel 20 minutes later and were swiftly escorted to the lobby, with our luggages taken care of by the concierge team. Within a minute we were greeted by the check in staff who came with five cake pops and welcome drinks, along with cold towels.

Before we could wipe our hands with the hand towels, we were whisked away to the club lounge for the check-in instead, after they realised our booking was made with club lounge inclusions. The club lounge was situated on the top level of the Sky Wing, with beautiful views of the ocean.

The check-in process was very pleasant. We were served afternoon tea and beverages while the well trained club lounge executives ran through the hotel's features and room inclusions. For our stay, we had a USD 100 hotel credit to use at the hotel's spa and restaurants, while the club lounge would have all day food and beverage options. More on the club lounge later in this article.

3 Bedroom Terrace Pool Villa with Club Lounge access

All villas were situated on ground level, with most split across two-levels. Our villa was a short 3-4 minute walk from the hotel's main buildings (where suites are located) and was a very pleasant walk with well manicured hedges and palm trees that lined the path to each villa.

Our villa was a whopping 431 square metres, equipped with a huge living room and dining area, full-sized kitchen, an infinity lap pool and two plunge pools (each room had their own pool), three bedrooms (two with king-sized beds and one with two single beds).

It's pretty impossible for photos or videos to capture the sheer elegance of the room - there was an incredible level of detail in the furnishings, with shelves beautifully decorated with unique art pieces and books, while the kitchen was stocked with everything you may need, from a toaster to an apron.

The infinity lap pool overlooked the hotel's terrace area, which was a soothing blanket of greenery and provided an impressive level of privacy.

All rooms comes with the below inclusions - this won't be what blows you away, but the complimentary room service items like contact lens kits, nail clippers (very good quality ones), wet bags, bath salts etc. You can even rent a Nintendo switch for your room in case you run out of things to do (pretty difficult to do).

  • Refreshment Gallery, fully stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, artisanal coffees and teas, as well as local delicacies and gourmet snacks, replenished daily

  • Bowl of fresh tropical fruits, replenished daily

  • Three pieces of laundry and three pieces of pressing per bedroom per day

  • Shoeshine service

  • Access to resort’s private beach, swimming pools and health club

  • Non-motorized watersports

  • Parking in secure underground garage

  • Coffee machine and kettle

  • In-room safe large enough to hold a 15-inch laptop

  • Full set of stationery including postcards, envelopes, paper, pen

  • Oversized Regent signature umbrella

  • Flip-flops

  • Cordless steam iron and iron board, yoga mat and foam roll available upon request

The master bedroom was located on the upper level along with the living and dining room and kitchen, with direct access to the infinity lap pool. The other two rooms were located on the lower levels, complete with its own cabana and plunge pool as well as a refreshment gallery. Our villa had four refreshment galleries, one for each room and another in the kitchen, refreshed daily with complimentary snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Each bedroom came with its own bathroom, with an oversized bathtub in the middle. Beyond the bathtub was an outdoor shower, with a ceiling so high you won't have any privacy concerns. The only concern you would have is any bug hiding in the plants. On each side of the bathroom was a his and hers vanity and sink, complete with a shower and toilet area.

Welcome amenities

As part of the IHG Destined perks (also applied to you when you book with us), we were greeted with an entire spread as a welcome amenity. There was a huge bowl of fruits (11 different kinds), champagne, a full-sized birthday cake (for my dad) and not one, not two, but three tarts - lemon and lime, strawberry and chocolate. A picture speaks a thousand words, so I'll leave the below picture here.

Breakfast

On the first morning, we had breakfast in the club lounge, which was a combination of a-la-carte and buffet items. Ordinarily, the club lounge and general area breakfast offerings would be similar but we actually found the fruits to be of higher quality (that may be a placebo effect but who knows). The a-la-carte offerings were exclusively found in the club lounge and were to a high standard, with options like matcha crepes and steak skillets.

The next morning, we went to the general breakfast area which had its own charms the club lounge didn't have. For starters, sitting in the outdoor area gave you stunning views of the hotel's main pool. The service here was less personalised given it was mainly buffet style, but the breakfast offerings were very broad.

Just imagine an entire room for fruits with a dedicated chef to carve the fruits, one for pastries with ovens still baking these delicious goods and many more for Vietnamese coffee, Pho and international food stations.

This was undoubtedly, the best hotel breakfast we have ever had.

Club Lounge

The club lounge is absolutely stunning, perhaps the best part of the hotel. After a dip in the pool, you can order unlimited drinks and food to be delivered to your pool bed. The all-day offerings are of fine dining standards - we tried virtually everything on the menu and couldn't find a single dish to fault. Even the drinks were well made.

Inside the lounge, you will also find the luxury editions of Monopoly and Scrabble board games, which you can play while enjoying a young coconut or a wahyu truffle pho.

Champagne and whisky are free flowing, alongside any cocktail concoction you can think of. For the t totalers, there are delicious mocktails, soft drinks and juices, though I did have a year's worth of young coconut during my stay, all delivered to my pool cabana as we enjoyed the sunset.

Pool, gym and hotel activities

Regent Phu Quoc has five swimming pools (apart from the private pools you have in your own suite and villa), fitness centre and rooftop yoga pavilion. It also boasts three restaurants and three bars, offering a diverse range of dining options from traditional Vietnamese Fare to experimental and immersive Haute cuisine.

The fitness centre has any type of equipment you may need and with sweeping views of the ocean, you'd want to wake up for the gym each morning. It is also well equipped with hydration options like young coconuts, pocari sweat, water and hydrolyte replacements. Protein bars and fruits provide further sustenance after your workout.

Walking to the back of the gym will reveal an outdoor boxing and pilates/ stretching area, similarly with views of the ocean while you are surrounded by fresh air and soothing greenery.

Regent Phu Quoc offers complimentary activities for all guests - it is recommended that reservations are made for these activities as the hotel staff will need to prepare materials! During our stay, there were activities like kite making and flying on the beach, coconut painting, candle making and canvas painting on the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed it and it was one of the best hotel activities we had experienced.

Conclusion

Room: 10/10

I believe the photos would do the talking, but a room with all the space you could ask for, four bathrooms and refreshment galleries and three pools is everything and more you could ask for from a luxury hotel. The outdoor areas were private and well manicured with palm trees and beautiful shrubs. Bedding was comfortable and fitted with Frette pillows (choose your pillows from a long list on the pillow menu).

Breakfast: 10/10

Breakfast was simply amazing, with fresh tropical fruits all around (pomelos were freshly peeled for you!) and a very broad suite of offerings. Even though we had so many options, every dish was superb and the hotel's high standards were kept. The breakfast dining area was stunning, with views of the pool and strategically positioned.

Lounge: 9/10

The club lounge's all-day offering was impressive and had no faults to be found. It was luxuriously furnished and never crowded. Staff at the club lounge were helpful and attentive.

General area: 9/10

The general areas were airy and well furnished - the sheer space was impressive and the many koi fish pools beautifully peppered around the property was the finishing touch to make the property an impressive one.

Facilities: 9/10

The hotel was equipped with anything you would need on your holiday, from kids clubs to rooftop pilates areas. We appreciated the daily complimentary hotel activities and bicycle rental facilities that ensured we never had a dull moment.

Service: 9/10

Staff were attentive and remembered every guest of our party by name, even going the extra mile to take note of personal preferences like still or sparkling water so that each time we visited the club lounge, they came with the type of water we preferred. Perhaps a small aspect, but the attention to detail went a long way and made us feel valued. Room service staff worked quickly while delivering to a high standard and any request was quickly fulfilled despite the sheer size of the hotel.

Value: 10/10

Perhaps on the higher end of luxury travel, Regent Phu Quoc delivers on every aspect for this price point. Our villa was huge, with plenty of space for each guest and fitted luxuriously. The hotel does not skimp on quality, with only the best being provided. There aren't many hotels that will provide luxury like this without breaking the bank!
